Blogs > Burney's Bytes
Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Legendary college hoops coach Bobby Knight was known as "The General."
So was former NBA player Sherman Douglas.
Now comes Southfield point guard Jeff Greer, who I've decided to nickname "The General" for the manner in which he runs the show for the Bluejays baller squad.
This kid's the motor that drives the 'Jays veteran cage club, a team that currently sits with a 17-4 record & is looking to tack on a third straight Class A district championship to their resumes Friday night against upstart Birmingham Groves.
All due respect to my main man, JG, he doesn't look like much of a killer in warm-ups - he's small and nondescript.
But once the ball is tipped, there's no doubt he is……and in every way possible.
Greer is a multi-dimensional lynchpin to both his team's offense and defense, leading at the point of attack with poise and savvy.
On Wednesday night in Southfield's 66-59 downing of Oak Park, 'General 'Jay' went all CHRIS PAUL and dropped a 17-point, seven-dime, seven-steal performance to open the state tournament in style.
There's a good chance, Greer might be the most undervalued backcourt stud in the whole area……YEAH, I SAID IT!!!
