Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Training Camp Report - Troy Athens

Troy Athens Red Hawks 2013-2014 boys basketball team
Players to watch:
Mikey Williams – Athletic and savvy combo guard that will surprise people this season by being one of the top backcourt performers in the OAA….TAKE IT 2 THA BANK!!
Timmy Shayoka – Dogged point guard with the motor of a finely-tuned race car and the killer instinct of a bloodthirsty shark....just so consistent
Corbin Vrinj – Long, versatile and soft-shooting forward with pogo-stick hops and an upside the size of the Grand Canyon
John Van Hoef – A walking double-double on the block, one of the toughest customers around
Zak Spryszak – Rock solid, feisty forward that will augment Vrinj and Van Hoef nicely in the frontcourt and help offset the loss of Lucas Bezerra (football star graduating early and enrolling at WMU in January)
Devin Terry – Durable and steady floor general that will be the Red Hawks Sixth Man providing an energetic speedy presence off the pine
William James – Transfer from Detroit Consortium that can play in the backcourt or on the wing and could be a real X-Factor for TEAM SCOTT this winter
Allen Smith – Quickly-improving guard that will give Athens a spark if called upon to give Williams or Shayoka a breather
Jack Stover – Hardworking forward that will come off the bench and spell the starting frontcourt
