Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

There might be some unrest brewing in the powerhouse Southfield Christian boys basketball program.
The two-time defending Class D state champs are currently 5-1 and in hot pursuit of a 3peat, as well as firmly on its way to establishing itself one of the top teams in the entire state regardless of school size.
But a bump in the road may have just reared its head.
All-state junior point guard, Bakari Evelyn, the Eagles best player and the No. 1 player in all of Class D, didn't suit up in SCS' 69-50 trouncing of Class A Ann Arbor Pioneer at home Friday night.
In fact, he wasn't even at the game.
Evelyn, already a Division I college-recruit, was across town at Orchard Lake St. Mary's, attending the Eaglets' game versus Clarkston (a 59-51 OLSM win).
SCS wouldn't comment on the situation.
Back on Monday night, Evelyn scored 17 points and gave away six dimes in Southfield Christian's 72-60 defeat of Class A Walled Lake Western at the Motor City Roundball Classic in Harper Woods.
The SCS program and community has already had some unfortunate off-the-floor burdens to bear so far this year, having to deal with the health issues incurred by head coach Josh Baker's family, which has required him to take a brief leave from the bench.
Assistant coach Clennie Brundidge has assumed the reins on the sidelines, keeping things, at least on the hardwood itself, stable in Baker's absence. The Eagles only loss this season is to Saginaw Arthur Hill, a club ranked high in the Class A rankings.

Baker's absence has left a mess at SC. I was at the game vs pioneer and the bench was a disaster. One assistant coach was removed from the game for yelling at the ref, the interim coach was swearing and pointing fingers at the opposing coach with a 25 point lead. classless from a christian school. I'm sure one of their fans will try to defend these actions but from what i've seen from this program from the summer till now is if baker is not there, it is a complete mess. not surprised players are leaving but this kid was bound to leave anyway.
Whoever you are, you are either severely misinformed or just lying. I was the closest person to Coach Brundidge when Pioneer's coach started yelling at the SCS coach for running up the score. At that point, SCS had 5 bench players on the floor, but maybe that's irrelevant. What IS relevant is that Coach Brundidge did not utter a single swear word. He did get defensive at Pioneer's verbal attack, but it didn't go down as you indicated here.
