Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

What's In Store

Being that it's Super Bowl Sunday and all, Burney started looking ahead to next football season and began thinking of what a collection of Blue Chippers Oakland County has in its stable of tailbacks.
Here are the Top 5 in terms of current college-recruiting buzz
1 Johnny Kelly (Oak Park) – The OP Machine Gun is ready to mow down the comp in the backfield for another year with TEAM CARTER….There's not a harder runner, snap-to-snap, in the state than this scintillating ball-carrier
2 Josh Holloman (AH Avondale) The Total Package Part 1: RAW POWER, RAW SIZE, RAW SPEED, RAW INSTINCT…..translation; an upside that's through the freaking roof!!
3 Daelin Hayes (OL St. Mary's)The Total Package Part II: Saw limited action as a sophomore in 2013, but is ready to ERUPT like a VOLCANO this fall…..(see above description)
4 Matt Falcon (Southfield)The Total Package Part III: Missed all of his sophomore campaign with a broken leg, however is everything you look for in a rusher (once again, see original 'Total Package' description)….like his name, this electrifying talent is about to FLY into the STRATOSPHERE in '14 with the rock in his hands for TEAM CONLEY
5 (tie) Juan Johnson (MH Madison) – The OC's "Don Juan" of the high school gridiron, JJ is ready to go HAM for yet another season in the Purple&Gold
5 (tie) Torrez Nesbit (WL Western) – Could wind up being the No. 1 running back in the KLAA, simply put; a PRIMETIME PERFORMER who can beat you in between the tackles, going around the edge or in an open-field footrace to the house
