Blogs > Burney's Bytes
Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Birmingham Brother Rice senior football star Shon Powell is a jitterbug of a tailback.
The Warriors' 'Dancing Machine' in the backfield is going to be doing his two-stepping in college as a West Sider, set to be jitterbugging to the next level soon; he recently committed to do his ripping, running and gunning on the gridiron at Kalamazoo College.
Powell (5-foot-7, 165 pounds) is a slippery speed demon with juke moves upon juke movies in his arsenal when carrying the pigskin - his versatility is one of his best traits as a ball-toter, he's fast enough to get the edge and strong & gutty enough to bang pads in between the tackles. And, boy, is he clutch!!!........Just a primetime playmaker in so many different ways.
During the winter sports season, he's also an all-state wrestler.
As a prepster, Powell helped spark ORANGECRUSHNATION to consecutive state football championships the last two years and stacked up hardware on the mat, too.
The Kalamazoo College football program finished 6-4 in 2013.
