Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Five For Fighting - Divide & Conquer

FIVE FOR FIGHTING – Top OC PRIMETIME performances at the Border Classic football all-star game against Ohio (a 27-14 W for TEAM MICHIGAN) over the weekend
1 Jason Alessi (Birmingham Brother Rice-Yale DB) – In case you didn't know (how could you not) the A stands for THE AMAZING ALESSI, my main BLACK&ORANGE BALLHAWKING HOMEBOY came up GINORMOUS, I'm talking NEON DEON-style, snagging a pair of picks in the intense contest; the momentum-grabber in the first half and a game-securing one in the fourth quarter. I mean what else do you expect? ALL this kid EVER does is make plays!!!
2 Kyle Bambard (WL Western-NC State K) – Booted a pair of field goals (36 yds, 34 yds) and connected on all three extra points…….CAN U SAY COLD, MEAN, HARD CASH MONEY? Cuz that's what this coldblooded SUPERSTUD of competitor is...THAT'S ACTUAL & FACTUAL!!
3 Ian Eriksen (Clarkston-EMU RB) – Scored the only OC touchdown on a 10-yard jaunt in the second half....maybe the grittiest rusher I've ever covered....PURE NAILS!!
4 Brandon Keen (Waterford Lakes-CMU OL) – Helped anchor the club's DOMINATION up front at the point of attack...simply put was in BOSS ZONE all day long, pounding pads, knocking helmets and loving every second of it!!
5 Coach Z aka Mike Zdebski (WL Western) – What a job!!!! Per usual, Z showed why he's the perfect 1-2 punch on the sidelines, providing tactical genius and master motivation....think a local version of Bill Cowher or Big Tuna Parcells...YEAH I SAID IT!!!
