Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Burney's Boys Baseball Rankings - Homestretch Countdown

OC Top 10
1 RH Adams (17-3) – HAIL TO THE VICTORS! Congrats boys on the OAA league crown clinched last week! The Highlanders are the best team in the county, bar none!
2 a Novi (22-5) – Kevin Zak is playing out of his mind. He's in attack-mode every time he's on the field. Thus for the next week I'm declaring the Wildcats, "The Zak Attack"!
2 b Farmington (20-6) – As Burney's main man, Guy Fieri of the Food Channel might say, Falcons senior Brett Linden has been playing "OFF THE CHAIN" lately. Linden was 2-4 with a double and an RBI in Farmington's 7-3 victory over West Bloomfield last week
3 Lake Orion (19-6) – Senior pitcher Chris Poirer is pouring it on from the hill AND U KNOW THIS! Get busy, CP and KEEP GETTING NICE!
4 MH Lamphere (19-4) – Junior catcher Greg Fettes' mega 3-run home run from Saturday in the Rams 8-3 defeat of Rochester is STILL IN THE AIR SOARING TO THE ANGELS, that's how far he hit that baby!
5 Birmingham Seaholm (16-3) – Just start calling Maples senior swat master, Greg Schwartz, 'Brandon Jennings', 'cause this cat is getting BUCK WILD with his stick this season!
6 WL Central (22-7) – The Kucera Twins are both BALLERS and SHOT CALLERS!
7 Berkley (20-5) – The Bears Conor Reid continues to go all CONOR REID on the comp!
8 MH Bishop Foley (18-3) – Foley hasn't been flashy, just really, really good this year. Burney says: Ventures, keep doing what you do and I have a feeling a long long run is in store for you guys when the state tourney starts up in two weeks.
9 a Brother Rice (17-10) – These fellas still have their best baseball in front of them
9 b OLSM (17-10) – These fellas still have their best baseball in front of them
10 a Birmingham Groves (14-7) – Come on Falcons, let's get this train back on the track for the stretch run!
10 b AH Avondale (13-8) – Taylor Drabek did his best Miggie Cabrera impression last week by blasting a game-winning 2-run shot in the 'Jackets 4-3 besting of Troy Athens
