Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Burney's Prep Football Top 10 - Rock Steady

OC TOP 10 - WEEK 3
1 Lake Orion – The Dragons 'D is playing great and seniors Marques Stevenson (RB) and Zach Zott (WR) are both off to quite prodigious starts in the stat department
2 Novi Detroit CC – After two games, Burney is convinced the 2010 Shamrocks are ALMOST as good as last year's state championship squad…and that's saying A LOT!
3 OL St. Mary's – Head coach George Porritt's Eaglets are like a fine-tuned engine running at full speed down the freeway (and while on the subject, on a collision-course with league-foe CC in a battle for the CHSL crown)
4 Birmingham Detroit Country Day – 'Jackets stinging at a Muhammed Ali-like pace!
5 FH Harrison – John Herrington and his Vento Express just keep rolling over the comp this season, proving that at Harrison two brothers are always better than one, especially when they are on the same team!
6 Farmington – The Falcons are FOR REAL this season and they proved it by going into hostile territory at perennial nemesis Adams last Friday night and coming out with the 'W'. Senior WR/CB Jason Wilson is a PURE GEM of a two-way double-threat.
7 Pontiac – Debrian Lewis and Mario Burkett make up the best cornerback combo in the county this side of the Farmington Falcons tantalizing tandem of Jason Wilson and Dae'von Scarber
8 RH Adams – The Highlanders will bounce back strong this week after taking it on the chin to Farmington in Week 2
9 (tie) Birmingham Seaholm – Maples could be in the midst of putting together a VERY SPECIAL season!
9 (tie) Hazel Park – you can't stop Vikings RB Dakota Ogles, you can only hope to contain him!!!!!!
10 (tie) MH Lamphere – Mitch Kozlowksi is giving the Oakland Press' very own Kozmo a run for his money as the most BODACIOUS and BAD A%# KOZ in the area!
10 (tie) MH Madison – Minor setback for Madison last week against a juggernaut of a Marine City squad (first regular season loss for the program since 2008), however, Burney knows the Eagles are resilient and won't let the defeat take themselves out of the Ford Field or bust mentality.
10 (tie) Southfield – Wow! Junior QB Justin Danzy has REALLY, REALLY improved since last season! Way to go, JD! Danzy's ability to pick apart defenses will open up the Blue Jays playbook and create more opportunities for any number of the team's talented skill-position players to make plays downfield
