Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Instant Feedback - To The Limit

Feedback from Friday night's action on the local prep gridiron scene;
My boys at MH Bishop Foley did their school and the Ventures' entire community PROUD by playing like CHAMPIONS to open up action on their new home field, downing Melvindale ABT 31-12. Burney's homeboy Scott Gwisdalla GOT NICE for 4 TDS!!!!
I'm going to start calling Troy Athens star running back Kris Gervin "The ICEMAN" for two obvious reasons:
1.      His uncle is NBA Hall of Famer George "The Iceman" Gervin
2.      His play on the field is ICE COLD!!!!
Gervin busted loose for 124 yards and two touchdowns in the Red Hawks 27-14 besting of Pontiac.
On the subject of the Phoenix and star running backs, Pontiac will benefit greatly from the return of Mark Cargle next week!!!! Cargle is one of the best power rushers in the area and he's about to show why
Tony Annese might wind up earning Burney's MVP this season, that's how GOOD&IMPORTANT this kid is for the RH Adams Highlanders……..Another in a long line of spectacular efforts on FRI saw Annnese combine for 200 yards of total offense and a quad of touchdowns (2 via ru, 2 via pass), while leading his team to an intense 35-28 victory over a feisty Farmington team
Real sad to hear that RO Shrine sophomore Jared Wangler is probably out for the season with a broken ankle suffered in the Knights shutout-win over Macomb Lutheran North
North Farmington's Jacquis Woods might end up being the best running back on a team with a losing record…..JW had his second great game, rushing for 176 and 2 scores in the Raiders 22-15 defeat at the hands of Birmingham Groves
FROM THE WORLD of THE TRIPLE D's aka…… DOMINANT, DYNAMIC and DEADLY, Prescott Line of Oxford is this season's Dakota Ogles….aka…..he's going to be the most productive running back in Oakland County – Line went for 245 and 5 TDS in the Wildcats come from behind win over Southfield-Lathrup. So far this campaign, he has 982 rushing yards and 10 touchdowns!!!!!
