Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Cleared & Present Danger

After year-long speculation on whether Farmington Hills Harrison's Aaron Burbridge (WR/KR) will be grade-eligible for his freshman season up East Lansing at Michigan State, the word came down this week that he will indeed be suited up for Sparty when they take the field in their 2012 opener against Boise State.
That's great news for the MSU faithful because Burbridge is expected to make a quick impact on the program's receiving corps, a group recently depleted due to the graduation of starters B.J. Cunningham and Kenyan Martin.
Burbridge was a three-year all-league pick and a two-time all-state selection at Harrison, helping take the Hawks to a state championship and back-to-back OAA White crowns, while making a reputation as one of the most explosive offensive players in the entire country.
He will team with fellow former OC playmakers on offense like Dion Sims (OL St. Mary's) and Bennie Fowler (Birmingham Detroit Country Day), along with transfer De Anthony Arnett (Tennessee) to try and make up for the losses of Cunningham and Martin and provide new quarterback Andrew Maxwell some immediate weapons to utilize in MSU's passing attack this fall.
