Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Now, We're Cooking!

Ortonville Brandon’s Quinton Cook is a name you should know before the start of the area's next high school basketball season in December.

Going into his senior year, Cook is an athletic and active 6-foot-6 forward and a two-time all-league pick from the Flint Metro. Last season, he averaged a double-double of 14 points and 10 rebounds per game.

Cook is one of the Blackhawks best boys hoopsters of at least the past decade, if not stretching even further back in OB BBall history. He’s a BEAST around the rim and a FINISHER on the break in the open floor.

In my opinion, this kid will be an ABSOLUTE STEAL for any D2 program - He's be a perfect fit at that level. He’s a hard-worker and tireless presence on defense that has improved his game in each of the past three years. His exploits – which have mostly gone unfairly unnoticed due to not playing at a hoops powerhouse –, were finally acknowledged by being selected as one of 120 participants in the annual BCAM-MHSAA Reaching Higher Showcase two weeks ago, where he impressed with his tenacious antics. And his upside is undeniable – It’s through the roof!!!

If you live out in the northern part of Oakland County, Burney suggests you get out to a Brandon game this winter and check out this Blackhawk cage gem before it’s too late!!
