Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Walking Tall

The Oakland County prep gridiron ranks have placed a whopping 10 walk-ons in the University of Michigan football program this fall;
SIR-GRIND-A-LOT Shout Outs to Anthony Capatina (Novi Detroit Catholic Central RB), Mike Jocz (Novi TE), Dan Gibbs (Birmingham Seaholm OL), Sterling Johnson (Birmingham Seaholm LB), Steve Wilson (Lakeland QB), Jack Kennedy (WL Central QB), Paul Gyarmati (Birmingham Brother Rice FB), Jareth Glanda (Birmingham Brother Rice LS), Joe Reynolds (Rochester Hills Adams WR) and Chris Eddins (Birmingham Detroit Country Day DL)
THE OC has built a rich walk-on tradition in Ann Arbor the past couple of decades.
Jeff Smokevitch of Birmingham Seaholm was a member of the 1997 National Championship squad and Mark Mondrous of North Farmington was named team captain as a senior in 2010.
