Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

On the road again

Chris Boatman has motored his way over to Southfield-Lathrup.
The local senior boys basketball standout, who played the past two seasons at Class C Southfield Bradford – earning all-league honors both years – and competed with Southfield in the summer, is now at Southfield-Lathrup and will be eligible next month.
Boatman is a rock steady point guard and has the chance to make a significant impact with the Chargers on the Class A level in his final semester on the high school hardwood. His presence in the backcourt come January will open up things even more for superstar senior combo guard Jon-Jon Williams (Toledo), currently pumping in 35 points per game.
Last season at Bradford, Boatman averaged 16 points, seven assists and two steals an outing for a state-ranked Bulldogs squad.
Lathrup is currently 2-2, riding a two-game win streak, collecting down-to-the-wire triumphs over Windsor Forrester on Saturday and defending Class D state champion, Southfield Christian Tuesday.
