Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

The Great Burnzini - Boys BBall Regional

My picks for this week's March Madness on the local boy prep hoops scene
Class A
At AA Huron
Teams: North Farmington, South Lyon, Ypsilanti and Canton
Pick: What's the longtime Raiders motto? - Just win, baby!! Well, that's exactly what TEAM NOGO and the NF Raiders will be doing this week, advancing into the program's first-ever ELITE 8
At West Bloomfield
Teams: Rochester, BH Lahser, Troy Athens and Romeo
Pick: The James Young Joyride continues……Rochester and its All-American head to the quarterfinals
At Southfield
Teams: Birmingham Groves, UofD-Jesuit, Detroit Pershing and Redford Thurston
Pick: No. 1 in the state Pershing purrs its way past the field in this one
Class B
At Birmingham DCD
Teams: DCD, Detroit Douglas, Ferndale University, HW Chandler Park
Pick: 'Jackets just way, way too deep not to go to at least the quarters this March
Class C
At MH Bishop Foley
Teams: Bishop Foley, Melvindale ABT, Detroit Consortium and Detroit Loyola
Pick: Consortium is really, really good and the Cougars scratch and claw out of this tightly-contest regional
Class D
At Novi
Teams: Southfield Christian, AP Inter-City Baptist, Bellevue and Pinckney-Livingston
Pick: Burney smells a repeat state title for TEAM BAKER at SCS!!! Yeah, I said it!!! Eagles fly to the final eight!!
At Lansing Christian
Teams: Lansing Christian, Birmingham Roeper, Clarkston Everest Academy and Peck
Pick: Roeper rides the roll of Cinderella into the longest tourney run in program history….Watch out for Roughriders senior point guard Abe Hashwi, one of the more underrated and deadliest floor generals in the OC
Sleeper picks: Wouldn't be shocked to see Lahser or Clarkston Everest punch a ticket to the quarters either
