Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Orange & Black Grid Report

Some news on the Birmingham Brother Rice football front. Recent Rice grad Lucas Cherocci, a two-year starting linebacker for the back-to-back state champion Warriors, will be playing his college football at Western Michigan. Cherocci is going to K-Zoo as a preferred walk-on.
With star senior running back Brian Walker on the shelf for the first two weeks of the upcoming season, look for junior Bobby Dixon to take his place in the backfield and make an immediate impact beside slick-footed senior Shon Powell. Bobby D is the REAL DEAL!!
WARRIOR WIDE OUT ROLL - Best WR unit in the state? Burney says it's a darn good possibility CALL:
Corey Lacanaria – No. 1 option, as sure-handed and precise a route-runner you'll find in this area....THATS A FACT!!
Josh Flye – This kid's a true fast-riser...he can go deep and across the middle
Delano Madison – Speed demon who can hurt opposing teams in multiple ways on offense.....STRAIGHT BURNER on the edge or taking an end-around/reverse
Demaris Woods – The player most likely to turn heads in this unit....all the tools for all-league-type season
Grant Perry – Only going into his junior year and he has the chance to to be a real difference-maker this season....like Madison, can line-up in various packages and has raw natural skills
Patrick Sparks – The sleeper workhorse of this talented pass-catching crew, will do whatever is asked of him and do it well. He'll be a third-down specialist and leader in the lockeroom in 2013
Ty Kiafoulis – The Warriors baseball star is ready for a bust-out campaign on the gridiron at the tight end spot this fall....Can you say CASH MONEY in the red zone?
