Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Five For Fighting - Fresh Field Generals

Lots of new starting quarterbacks ready assume the reins for their respective prep football teams next week when practice kicks-off for the 2013 season.
Here are your boy Burney's Top 5 favorite incoming signal-calling studs
Five For Fighting – My favorite new starting field generals in the OC in '13
1 Alex Malzone (Birmingham Brother Rice) – Might be his inaugural campaign as full-time starter under center and he still could be the best quarterback in the area…..YEAH I SAID IT!!!...has all the physical and mental tools to possibly end his prep career two seasons from now as the greatest Rice field general of all-time
2 Jalen Brady (Southfield) – Welcomed-addition to the OC for his senior season on the high school gridiron, this D1 transfer from Grand Ledge is taking the helm of a doozy of a Bluejays offense this fall
3 Chase Burton (Walled Lake Northern) – Eager to see this rock-steady senior grab the wheel of what was the area's most prolific offense last year
4 Sean Birney (Novi Detroit Catholic Central) – Tough-as-nails LAX star that is now at ground zero for the Shamrocks 'O,'……just like his big bro, Mike, who started at QB for CC in 2010, will surprise people with his arm-strength and consistency.
5 Garrett Edgell (Orchard Lake St. Mary's) – I have confidence "The Edge" will lead a seamless transition from the Linehan—Niemiec-McInnis era in REDZONELAND
