Blogs > Burney's Bytes
Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Former OC grid stud Van Jefferson is getting MAD LOVE from the SEC.
The one-time OL St. Mary's all-league wide receiver has been bombarded with college football scholarship offers from the nation's NO. 1 conference. In a nutshell, it's a BLUE-CHIP RECRUITING PARTY and my main man Van is at the top of the guest list!!
Florida, LSU, Tennessee, Auburn, Clemson, Ole Miss, Mississippi St, South Carolina, Vandy and Georgia have each already extended bids.
Can you say BIG TIME? Man, does Burney miss watching VJ going all MEGATRON on opposing secondaries and wishes he got to witness his entire prep career catching the pigskin first hand, not from afar alas is the current situation because his family moved to Tennessee last winter (Ravenwood HS).
When he was a sophomore plying his trade in the OC in 2012, Jefferson (6-foot-3, 200 pounds, sticky hands, deceptive speed, smart, reliable route-runner) had a breakout campaign and helped the Eaglets claim a Catholic League championship and advance into the D3 state finals at Ford Field
His dad is retired NFL split end Shawn Jefferson, who was an asst coach with the Detroit Lions for several seasons. There's absolutely ZERO doubt in Burney's mind that wherever this kid ends up playing on Saturday at the college level he's going to be a SUPERSTAR
