Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Prep Football Rankings - Watching the Throne

OC TOP 10 - Prep Football Teams
1 FH Harrison – I really don't know what else there is to say about the 2011 Hawks…..JUST PLAIN AWESOME!!!
2 (tie) Birmingham Brother Rice – My main man Greg Marzec could be the best pure fullback in Oakland County…..the Warriors 3-headed monster of a rushing brigade gets all the ink, but Marzec is the one doing all the dirty work, banging helmets out in front, clearing the way!!! MAD PROPS!!!
2 (tie) Novi Detroit CC – Burney loves seeing Dave Racey doing his thing for CC on both sides of the ball!!!!
3 Southfield – Expect a GINORMOUS outing from Bluejays TE Ron Thompson soon….you can only contain such a monster for so long
4 Clarkston – I've decided to nickname one my top C-Town homeboys Mitch Baenziger, "Rock Steady", 'cause this Wolfpack field general is SOLID as a frigging BOULDER when leading his team on the gridiron!!!!
5 Oxford – BUD BALL is rolling and it doesn't appear ready to slow down anytime soon……..speaking of rock steady performances under center, Wildcats senior QB Vito Gianola has been doing an outstanding job running 0-Town's runaway freight train of an offense this fall and Burney knows he's going to keep it up!!!
6 WL Western – Two Words; BRETT ZDEBSKI……enough said!!!!
7 (tie) Lake Orion – Dragons breathing fire once again!!!
7 (tie) OL St. Mary's – Tough loss by the Eaglets on their own home turf on Saturday will only make them hungrier in Week 3
8 WL Central – The Vikings showed their true colors in Week 2 'W' over Salem
9 Oak Park – If loving Knights' star running back Denzel Wright is wrong I don't want to be right!!!!!
10 (tie) AH Avondale – Steve Deutch is a brilliant offensive mind of a coach…….might be most underrated in the whole state in that regard…..Senior wide out Eric Stubbs is this season's Ray Tillman so keep a look out
10 (tie) Birmingham Seaholm – The Maples have a chance to be the feel-good story of the year in Michigan High School sports if they keep playing with the terrorizing tenacity they have through the first two weeks of the campaign……RIP COACH DEANE….he's smiling up there somewhere this Labor Day weekend....What a great guy!!!!!
