Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Rising Fast

Chris Lum is seeing his NFL Draft stock flying up the charts this winter.
The former standout Lake Orion High School field general recently completed an All-American career at college quarterbacking Lehigh University of the Patriot League and has a good chance of being a late-round draft pick or at least winding up as a free agent in a NFL training camp come summertime.
Lum stands 6-foot-2, weighs 210 pounds and has a gun of an arm. His pocket presence and underrated ability to evade the pass rush while not being overly speedy make him an attractive sleeper in this upcoming draft class.
Last fall in his second year under center, Lum re-wrote both his school and his league's passing record book for a single season of action. Connecting on 67 percent of his pass attempts, he threw for 4,380 yards and 32 touchdowns. He eclipsed the 300-yard passing marker on nine separate times in 2011 and took the Mountain Hawks into the postseason for the second straight campaign.
During his prep career at Lake Orion, Lum led the Dragons to a pair of district titles and one OAA RED crown and was an all-state selection in 2006 and 2007.
