Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Repping The 'Brook

It just hit me.
If Republican Party Presidential Candidate Mitt Romney somehow makes his way into the White House next year, he will be the first President of the United States to ever have played prep sports in Oakland County.
Pretty crazy, huh? And pretty cool, too!!!
Romney was born and raised in Metro Detroit, grew up in Bloomfield Hills and attended BH Cranbrook from the seventh grade until when he graduated from high school there in the spring of 1965.
As a prepster, Romney earned a varsity letter in cross country and was the team manager for the Cranes' state-power hockey team - Yeah, even back then the 'Brook was killing it on the ice.
