Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

It's not usual that NBA coaching news effects the Oakland County prep hoops scene.
This summer provides the exception, since former Detroit Pistons guard and current Southfield Christian boys and girls assistant basketball coach Lindsey Hunter is in the running for the head coaching job with the NBA's Orlando Magic.
As of Wednesday, Hunter was one of three finalists for the position, along with former Pistons coach and player Michael Curry and one-time NBA point guard Jacque Vaughn.
If Hunter takes the job, his son, Lindsey Hunter IV, one of the best backcourt prospects in the area's Class of 2014 and a starter on last season's state title squad, could leave SCS and join him in Florida for the conclusion of his career on the high school hardwood.
If that transpired, the OC would lose not one but TWO cage gems and Burney would be very sad.
Don't fret Eagles fans, if Hunter IV doesn't return to SCS, the cupboard is fare from bare.
Even minus Hunter IV, head coach Josh Baker sports possibly three Division I recruits on his 2013 roster, including sophomore point guard Bakari Evelyn, incoming freshman Marlow Brown and transfer and junior-to-be De Marco White.
