Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Just Call Him Mr. Clutch

Alex Mussat saved the day for the Troy Colts football team back on Friday night, getting the call-up from JV and leading TEAM GRIFF to a hard-fought 19-14 win on the road at hot-as-a-pistol Stoney Creek.
To say the Colts have been besieged by injuries at the field general spot would be a vast understatement. Troy is down to its fourth-string signal caller.
Nonetheless, Mussat was ready to ROAR like a LION named STAFFORD when his coaches looked in his direction.
Answering their prayer from the heavens, the sophomore quarterback came to the team's rescue and tossed what ended up being the contest's deciding touchdown, a 12-yarder to Juan Jackson on a perfectly-executed fade route.
Managing the game under center like a grizzled vet, Mussat might have saved the Colts' season with his outstanding performance under the most-dire of circumstances. THE GRIFF GRID GLADIATORS are 2-1 going into their Week4 match-up with Pontiac.
MAD PROPS are deserved!!!!
