Blogs > Burney's Bytes
Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Clarkston head football coach, Kurt Richardson pulled one of the gutsiest strategic moves I've seen in a long time in leading his Wolves to a 21-14 win over Lake Orion on Friday night to clinch the program's second OAA Red title in a row.
Late in his team's final, game-winning drive, K-RICH inserted sophomore quarterback D.J. Zezula, who had only taken one prior snap the entire contest, to convert the biggest play of the night – a 30-yard laser of a completion to Alex Dicea down the right sideline deep into Lake Orion territory, setting up Ian Eriksen's go-ahead touchdown run with 14 seconds left.
Although Zezula is Clarkston's everyday field general, Richardson decided to switch it up MAD TACTICIAN STYLE and start the more athletic junior Caine Watlington, normally the Wolves starting strong safety, under center against the vaunted LO defense. Then, at the last minute, he doubled-back beautifully and gave the nod to Zezula to deliver the knockout blow.
K-RICH ain't one of the best prep head coaches around for nothing!!
All Burney can say is……………………..BRILLIANT!!!!
