Blogs > Burney's Bytes
Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Southfield Christian's Charity Godbold is a true hidden gem on the area's prep girls basketball landscape.
The junior combo guard is long, active and smooth as silk with the rock in her hands. Going all CANDACE PARKER this season, she is averaging 30 points per night.
Godbold might compete at the small-school level, but make no mistake about it, she is one of the best overall players in the area, regardless of school size.
She's the truth. Her game doesn't lie. On Tuesday, she poured in 33 points in only three quarters of action in the Eagles 54-42 loss to Birmingham Roeper - just another day at the office for the sizzling Miss Godbold.
There is no question in my mind that Godbold is a D1 recruit right now as is. The recruiters agree, too. She's already getting some looks.
Well, there should be more. That's how legit this girl's game is.
As a fab frosh, Godbold helped lead the Eagles to league and district titles and an amazing run into the Class D Sweet Sixteen.

I had the privilege of coaching Charity at Southfield Christian when she was in 8th grade. She is amazing! Thanks for spreading the word... she's quite the young lady.
