Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Around The Bend

The Birmingham Brother Rice baseball team is just stacked to the gills with top-notch talent.
Not really much of a secret, taking in account the fact that club is 28-8, the two-time defending Catholic League champions and a current frontrunner in the race for BATTLECREEK
Here's a look at some future Warriors' diamond studs that are cutting their teeth as Fab Frosh for the Brother Rice SPRING BALLER BRIGADE this year;
Karl Kauffman (P/IF) – This kid is COLD-BLOODED….earned the win toeing the slab in relief this weekend in the regional title contest against Northville. Will be a rock-solid presence in the TEAM RIKER lineup for the next 3 seasons…TAKE IT 2 THE BANK!!
Jeff Timko (C/OF) – Possesses the genes of a playmaker (his sister is Pontiac NDP all-state soccer scoring machine Taylor Timko) and is learning from the best at his two positions. Showing all the signs of a soon-to-be Orange&Black SHREDDER!!
Preston Pilat (OF/P) – Fluid in the field with his glove, fleet-footed on the base paths while displaying a quick swing and sound instincts in between the lines.
