Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Still Up In The Air

The much-publicized Bakari Evelyn transfer from two-time defending Class D state champion Southfield Christian to Detroit Consortium is not in stone.
Evelyn could be back at Southfield Christian right now.
Reports surfaced early this week that Evelyn, the Eagles all-state junior point guard, had left school.
He skipped SCS's 69-50 browbeating of Ann Arbor Pioneer last Friday night, showing up at the OL St. Mary's-Clarkston game instead.
On Tuesday, local media outlets began reporting that Evelyn was on his way to Consortium, where he would team with future McDonald's All-American Josh Jackson and possibly be eligible immediately.
Now, it's coming out that Evelyn could be pulling a reverse.
How all this moving around or intended moving around will affect his eligibility or his playing-status wherever he lands is unknown.
The only thing we know for sure is that Evelyn was absent from the SCS hoops squad between portions of last week and this week, at the very least.
SCS has a critical MIAC road contest Friday vs arch-rival Allen Park Inter-City Baptist, while Consortium faces Detroit Pershing in a showcase event at Detroit East English Village Saturday.
Evelyn's presence or lack of presence Friday and Saturday at these two games will tell the tale, I assume.
Only time will tell.
