Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Shoot To Kill

Last night Clarkston's Nick Tatu went BONKERS from 3-pointland, nailing a mind-numbing 12 trifectas in the Wolves 79-72 loss to Troy.
In tribute to Tatu's unreal performance, Burney decided to take a look at some of the OC's best outside shooters through history.
According to the MSHAA record books the top 3-point bombers in OC history are;
Jon Mills (AH Oakland Christian) – hit 103 3-pointers in 1997 (3rd best in state history) and shot 50 percent for his 3-year varsity career with the Lancers
Jasper Ocampo (MH Bishop Foley) – connected on a whopping 60 percent from 3-point distance for his final two years on the prep hardwood in the early 1990s, as well as won the first two Oakland County 3-point contests
Sean Kennedy (Berkley) – made 49 percent from 3-point range in 2003
Kevin O' Meara (Troy) – banged home 48.5 percent of his attempts from downtown in 1998
Billy Bolt (Southfield Christian) – its looks like Tatu went ALL BILLY BOLT on Tuesday, 'cause Bolt hit a dozen trey bombs in a single game back in 1991
