Blogs > Burney's Bytes

Burney's Bytes will focus primarily on the local preps sports scene, but will also touch on some college and pro athletics, mostly in regards to athletes who hail and have played high school sports in Oakland County. My goal for the blog is to be conversational and anecdotal, a more relaxed and free formal take on high school athletics than you see in regular game day coverage.

Making A Point

Stoney Creek has a pair of pretty special point guards in the fold this winter on the high school basketball court:

Let's take a Cougar Cage Look;

Maria Zandi (girls) - This is one heady, fearsome floor general. Zandi is the ultimate hardwood quarterback, possessing outstanding court vision and instinct. She's been dropping dimes like a Las Vegas slot machine this season. No doubt, she's one of the best at her position in the OAA....and she's only a junior

Charlie Carson (boys) - Blossoming into a genuine star out of the backcourt this year, after showing flashes last winter in helping take TEAM NORGROVE to a league crown. Just a bulldog that lives for the heat of battle, Carson plays rugged on offense and defense. He's a true triple threat - he can score, create and pass with lethal efficiency. Oh yeah, the Cougars are piping hot, 5-1 out of the gate. Carson dropped a 28-point, 10-dime effort in a Creek 'Dub' Thursday.
